Student council tax exemption if you are a full-time student in Charnwood you can apply for exemption from paying council tax. If two or more residents living in your property are not qualifying students no reduction is allowed.  The property must be your sole or main residence during term time. A student (including those who are from overseas) must be: Undertaking a university or college full-time course which lasts for at least one academic or calendar year, takes at least 24 weeks a year and involves at least 21 hours of study per week during term-time. If they are under 20 years old they must be undertaking a course which lasts more than 3 months and at least 12 hours of study per week such as A level, ONC and OND Standard. The course must be undertaken between 8.00am and 5.30pm. If you are registered as a foreign language assistant you will need to provide confirmation from the British Council and also from the school or college where you are appointed. You must be the liable person to request a Student Discount/Exemption or have authorisation to do so. The liable person must be aged 18 years or over. The liable person is the person named on the Council Tax bill or exemption notice. If your application is successful a new bill or exemption notice will be issued to you. In the meantime, bills previously issued must be regarded as correct and due for payment as requested. Apply online
