Ted Parton was elected to serve as Borough Councillor for Southfields ward in September 2012. He was elected over Labour’s Mary Draycott – a party veteran and former Lord Mayor of Leicester. The Conservatives gained 538 votes to Labour’s 516. The seat had been held by Labour since the 1980s. The by-election was called when Councillor Smith quit to focus on his career. In May 2015 Ted was re-elected to Charnwood Borough Council. He received 1,590 votes - the highest ever that a councillor has received since the ward was created. In May 2017 Ted was elected to represent Southfields and Shelthorpe wards on Leicestershire County Council. Ted previously worked as a technician at Loughborough Grammar School. He performed class preparation and assisted pupils during the lesson. He is now employed by Ginsters. Ted is also a Committee member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), where his role is the Publicity Officer for the Leicester Group. In addition to this he is a member of Amnesty International, the Red Cross and raises money for Oxfam. Ted lives in Southfields ward on Burton Street.
