Paul Mercer was elected in 2015 but previously served on Charnwood Borough Councillor and is a co-owner of a consultancy company. Before that he worked for the Adam Smith Institute and Conservative Research Department.   Paul lived in Uganda before moving to Loughborough when he was nine. He has an engineering degree from Nottingham University. Paul has been directly associated with Southfields ward for over 40 years. His flat is in Southfields, and his father worked in Southfields. In fact, his great great grandfather was the original owner of 8 Broad Street, on the edge of the ward, in the late 1880s. Paul is a member of the National Union of Journalists, the RSPB, keen on sports and a professional scuba diver.
